Championship is a game mode in Destruction Derby, Destruction Derby 2 and Destruction Derby Arenas. This is the main career mode of these games to progress up and unlock new features. This mode also appeared in Destruction Derby 64 under the name World Championship.

Destruction Derby[]

In Destruction Derby, the Championship is available for all the main modes: Wreckin' Racing, Stock Car Racing and Destruction Derby. The player starts out in Division 5, with the goal being to climb to and win Division 1 by being promoted every season. Each season ends with a visit to The Bowl. In each division the race tracks are set to change to a variant or a reversed course.

There is an obvious pattern as to which competitors climb to the top divisions and which ones don't; in Stock Car Racing, only deliberate player intervention would stop The Skum from rising meteorically from his starting Division 3 to the top division.

Destruction Derby 2[]

Championship mode is part of the Wrecking Racing and Stock Car sets. On entering a Championship, you are placed into division four where an accumulation of sufficient points will see your season rewarded with a promotion to a higher league where you can race on different tracks. Each season is concluded by a visit to a bowl where your performance will either make or break your season. There is no longer a Championship for Destruction Derby mode.

The table below shows what tracks and (in Wrecking Racing) bowls are played in per Division in a Championship.

Destruction Derby Arenas[]

In Destruction Derby Arenas there are four rounds, each consisting of three race circuits and a derby bowl as the final event. The object is to get as many points as possible (from wrecking opponents), which then all add up into a grand total at the end of a round and determines the winner. A new Wrecking Racing track is unlocked as the player completes each round. The player receives bonus points if finishing in the top 3 in each race.

The following table shows the tracks and bowls in appearance in each Championship round.
